GRAND FORKS, N.D.--University of North Dakota senior wide receiver Weston Dressler, junior center Mitch Braegelmann and sophomore running back Ryan Chappell have each been named to the 2007 Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division II Preseason All-America team.
Dressler, one of 24 national finalists for the 2006 Harlon Hill Trophy as the best player in Division II football, led the nation with 90 receptions for a school-record 1,215 yards and 16 touchdowns last season. The Bismarck, N.D., also broke his own single-season school record for all-purpose yardage (2,027) and became UND's all-time leader in career receptions (167) and career touchdown receptions (24). Dressler earned seven different first team All-America honors last season.
After missing the entire 2005 season due to injury, Braegelmann returned to the lineup last season and started all 13 games at center, earning All-North Central Conference first team honors. He was named an All-America honorable mention by Football Gazette and earned a pair of all-northwest region accolades. A native of St. Cloud, Minn., Braegelmann was named UND's Most Valuable Offensive Lineman.
Chappell, a native of Grand Forks, set UND freshman records with 1,253 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns despite starting just seven games. A 2006 Football Gazette All-America honorable mention, Chappell was one of just two freshmen named to the All-NCC team and was named UND Athletics Male Rookie of the Year for all sports.
A total of 155 players representing all four geographic regions of NCAA Division II were named to the 2007 Football Gazette Preseason All-America Team.
UND will open the 2007 season on Thursday, Aug. 23 at home against non-conference opponent Humboldt State. The Sioux went 11-2 overall last season and claimed their second consecutive NCC championship.
