Orem, Utah — Freshman
Troy Huff (Milwaukee, Wis.) was named to the All-Great West second team and also landed a spot on the league's all-newcomer team as Great West officials announced their men's basketball awards on Wednesday. Junior forward
Patrick Mitchell (Des Moines, Iowa) earned honorable mention All-Great West honors.
“This is a tribute to Troy and the growth and maturity he has shown since the beginning of the season and to Pat for being one of the better all-around players in the league,” UND head coach
Brian Jones said. “These individual honors are also a credit to Pat and Troy's teammates and what we have been able to accomplish as a team together this season.”
Huff leads the Sioux in scoring at 13.0 ppg and upped that to a 14.8 ppg clip in league action. He leads all Great West freshmen in scoring with 389 points – a total that ranks fourth on UND's all-time freshman scoring charts.
Mitchell is the league's top shot blocker with 50 on the season – a total that ranks seventh on UND's single season charts. Mitchell also averaged 10.8 ppg and 6.8 rpg in helping lead the Sioux to an 8-4 record in GWC play.
Huff and Mitchell share the team lead with 21 double-figure scoring games. Huff had a season-high 31 points in a 74-70 overtime victory at Houston Baptist (March 3), while Mitchell posted a season-high 20 points in a home win over Chicago State (Feb. 28).
