Peter Miller named track and field assistant coach

GRAND FORKS, N.D.  - University of North Dakota Head Track and Field Coach Kevin Galbraith announced today that Peter Miller has been added to his staff as an assistant coach and will work primarily with UND's throwers.

Miller comes to UND from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where he enjoyed a highly successful three-year tenure as an assistant coach working with throws and combined events. He began his coaching career at UWRF after a standout athletic career at the University of Minnesota.

"Peter is a complete track coach who has done a great job of identifying and developing talent, and he'll also be a real asset as our recruiting coordinator," said Galbraith. "As a student-athlete, Peter worked hard as a walk-on and ended up developing into a Big 10 scorer, so he certainly knows what it takes to cultivate a Division I student-athlete."

Miller coached NCAA Division III qualifiers in each of his three seasons at UWRF, with his top student-athlete placing as high as third. His student-athletes placed 1-2 in the women's javelin at the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and broke school records in the men's weight and hammer throws.

In his two seasons' coordinating the Falcons' strength and conditioning program, Miller's student-athletes broke 27 school records and earned 13 All-America awards. He has also been heavily involved in track and field winter camps as both a director and instructor.

Miller also coordinated the UWRF track program's $10,000-per-year fundraising efforts.

A 2008 graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, Miller was a three-year letterwinner for the Golden Gophers and served as a team captain during his senior year. He was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a five-time University of Minnesota Scholar Student-Athlete.

Miller is currently pursuing his master's degree in business administration.
