CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The North Dakota track and field teams began the 2022 outdoor season Friday afternoon at the Hurricane Invitational. Seven Hawks kicked off the meet on day one, with five members of the UND track and field team placing in the top-eight.
The high jumpers shined on day one, with
Erica Benson and
Elise Ulseth both clearing 5-5 1/4 (1.66m) to finish tied for second and fifth, respectively. In total, the top seven jumpers cleared 5-5 1/4 (1.66m) and it came down to jump-offs to decide the places.
Ashley Conneran (5-3 1/4, 1.61m) and
Elle Thorson (5-1 1/4, 1.56m) finished just outside the top-eight but both finished with new personal bests.
Austin Wolf also placed fifth in his respective section of the high jump with a height of 6-4 1/4 (1.94m).
Garrett Shumski and
Natalie Mohring were the first athletes to compete for North Dakota and both took eighth in the discus. Shumski had a throw of 140-11 (42.96m), while Mohring finished with a mark of 142-3 (43.36m).
The Fighting Hawks will begin day two of the Hurricane Invitational on Saturday with field events at 10 a.m. (CT) and track events at Noon (CT). Live results will continue to be available at
