VERMILLION, S.D. – Javelin throwers for North Dakota shined on day two of the South Dakota Challenge at the Lillibridge Track Complex on Friday, picking up an event title and two other top-eight finishes. In total, the Fighting Hawks finished day two with one improvement to the UND top-10 list, an event title, four Hawks placing and several new personal bests.
Andrew Walter held the lead in the men's javelin after his second throw, with a personal-best mark of 195-5 1/4 (59.57m), bettering his previous best of 185-10 (56.65m). His mark in the second throw won the event title and moved him up to No. 6 all-time at North Dakota in the event.
Jennifer Parent took fifth in the women's javelin with a throw of 122-1 (37.21m), followed by
Brooklynn Gould taking sixth with a mark of 118-8 1/2 (36.18m).
Harris Maclean tied for seventh in the pole vault with a personal-best height of 14-8 (4.47m).
Kenzie Gullickson and
Natalie Mohring finished just outside the top-eight in their respective events. Gullickson led the UND women in the pole vault with a height of 10-8 3/4 (3.27m), while Mohring had the best hammer throw for the Hawks in a distance of 170-9 (52.04m).
Mackenzie Severson and
Jory Vasek paced NoDak in their respective sections of the 200 meters and both finished just outside the UND top-10 list. Severson ran away with her heat in a PR time of 25.40, falling 0.15 seconds shy of the UND top-10 chart. Vasek ran a personal-best time of 22.75, barely missing the top-10 list by 0.31 seconds.
The Fighting Hawks will conclude the South Dakota Challenge on Saturday, with field events starting at 10 a.m. and the first events on the track commencing at Noon. Live results will continue to be provided by
