Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis opened up a three-match week against former Big Sky Conference foes with a 4-3 loss to Portland State on Wednesday evening from Tualatin Hills Tennis Center in Portland, Ore.

In doubles action, UND (14-3) got off to a strong start with Cian McDonnell and Edmond Aynedjian grabbing a 6-3 win from the No. 2 court, but the Vikings notched a pair of 7-6 victories from the top and bottom spots to claim the early 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

The Fighting Hawks quickly evened the score, as reigning Summit League Men's Tennis Peak Performer of the Week Gerhard Sullwald rolled to a pair of 6-1 scores at the No. 1 spot, but PSU answered back once again with two triumphs from the second and sixth courts to pull ahead, 3-1.

UND would not go down quietly, however, as Aynedjian cut the deficit to 3-2 at the No. 3 position with a 6-2, 7-5 win before Riley Odell brought the score level at 3-3 by a 6-2, 7-6 victory from the fifth spot to turn all eyes to the No. 4 court to decide the match.

There, Nikita Snezhko got things started with a 6-2 victory in the opening set, but fell in the final pair of frames to give Portland State the 4-3 victory and hold off the late charge from the Fighting Hawks.

North Dakota will look to get back to its winning ways on Friday afternoon against Idaho from Moscow beginning at noon.
