BOSTON, Mass. – The North Dakota distance team concluded the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday and broke two school records.
Alec Nelson broke the first school record on Saturday morning with a PR time of 1:49.83 in the 800 meters. He broke the record of
Jesse Middendorf, who set it at 1:50.14 at this meet last year. Nelson's PR currently ranks as the top 800-meter time in the Summit League this season.
Teammate
Justice Dick was also in the 800 meters and posted the third-fastest time in school history with a time of 1:50.37.
The distance medley relay team of
Eliana Malnourie,
Jerzie Finstad,
Brooklyn Brouse and
Yonca Kutluk shattered the school record with a time of 11:40.44. They broke the record of 11:43.73, which was set by the team of Madison Overby, Lucy Steinmeyer, Erica Eades and Hanah Oscarson at South Dakota State in 2020.
Lennart Lindstrot moved up to No. 3 in program history in the mile with a personal-best time of 4:09.40.
Henrik Lindstrot was less than two seconds shy from making the UND top-10 list in the invitational 3,000 meters with a PR of 8:31.01 on Saturday night.
North Dakota will conclude the regular season hosting the UND Tune-Up next Saturday (Feb. 17), before traveling to Fargo for the Summit League Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24.
Post-Meet Notes
* North Dakota competed at both the SDSU Indoor Classic and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational this weekend and came away with 12 improvements to the UND top-10 lists, three new school records and an event crown.
* In Boston, the Fighting Hawks broke school records in the 5,000 meters (
Yonca Kutluk), 800 meters (
Alec Nelson) and distance medley relay (
Eliana Malnourie,
Jerzie Finstad,
Brooklyn Brouse and Kutluk).
* On Friday night in Brookings,
Kenna Curry won the invitational weight throw title and had the No. 2 throw in UND history with a PR toss of 71-6 1/4 (21.80m). Her mark currently sits No. 12 in the NCAA.
