WCHA names Nuutinen Rookie of the Week

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – After a two-point night to help propel the UND women's hockey team to its seventh-straight Final Face-Off, freshman forward Emma Nuutinen has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

The Vantaa, Finland native was tied for the lead in WCHA rookie scoring over the weekend; she was only tied with teammates Ryleigh Houston and Hallie Theodosopoulos with two points each.

Both of her weekend points came in game three against the Buckeyes, as she assisted on the game's first goal before scoring the series-winning goal in overtime. Nuutinen finished the weekend with nine shots on net, which also led all WCHA freshmen for the week.

This was the second weekly honor for Nuutinen, who was previously named Rookie of the Week on Oct. 18. It was also the sixth Rookie of the Week award for North Dakota, as the Fighting Hawks claimed the most Rookie of the Week honors this season.

North Dakota takes on No. 1 Wisconsin this Saturday, March 4, in the first semifinal game at the 2017 WCHA Final Face-Off at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. The winner advances to the championship game, where they will face the winner of Minnesota and Minnesota Duluth.
