Redshirt freshman QB threw for career highs in yards and touchdowns

ST. LOUIS – Redshirt freshman quarterback Tommy Schuster was named Missouri Valley Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday evening by the league after leading No. 3 UND to its fourth straight win.

The Macomb, Mich., native was electric on offense for the Fighting Hawks, tossing for a career-high 328 yards and three scores in a 38-21 win over Western Illinois. He completed over 78% of his passes, the highest mark of his young career, to move to 5-0 at UND and 4-0 as a starter.

He helped the offense run 80 plays for a season-best 544 yards of total offense and hold the ball for over 41 minutes in the team's first road victory of the campaign.

Schuster currently paces the conference in completion percentage (.685) and passing touchdowns (7), while also ranking inside the top-5 in passing efficiency (139.7), yards (849) and yards per game (212.2). As a team, UND leads the Valley in total offense (441.0) and scoring offense (32.8).

North Dakota, who will find out its new place in the polls on Monday, is set to take on North Dakota State at 2:30 p.m. next Saturday from Gate City Bank Field at the FargoDome in the first conference meeting between the schools since 2003.
