COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The North Dakota softball team closed out a three-game set with South Dakota State on Saturday, falling 9-0 to the Jackrabbits at John and Jean Marshall Softball Complex on the campus of Iowa Western CC.
SDSU got on the board in the bottom of the first with back-to-back RBI doubles and then an RBI groundout to put three up in the frame. In the bottom of the second, a single and two walks loaded the bases and then a hit batter scored the fourth run. With the bases still loaded, a three-RBI double made it 7-0, then an RBI single made it 8-0. Later, it looked like UND got out of the inning by turning a bases loaded double play, but it was ruled that Katelyn Neumayer's foot was off the bag at first; scoring the final run of the game.
Tori Kniesche picked up the win for SDSU, allowing no hits in a winning effort, while Camryn Lasota took the loss. NoDak got three baserunners in the game: Hannah Thompson drew a walk in the second inning and two Fighting Hawks were hit by a pitch: Neumayer in the third inning and Izzy Haslett in the fifth.
The Fighting Hawks will host South Dakota next weekend at the Apollo, with two games on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
