GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Katelyn Neumayer went 3-3 against Minot State on Thursday, tying her career high with three RBIs to lead the North Dakota softball team to an 8-0 win over the Beavers. Jackie Albrecht threw a complete game shutout with five innings of work, picking up four more strikeouts to move into fourth in the Summit League with 95 this season.
In the bottom of the first UND got the board quickly as Angie Dumlao, Izzy Haslett and Taya Hopfauf all singled to load the bases with one out. Cassie Castaneda reached on a fielder's choice but the play at the plate kept the game scoreless. Neumayer came to the plate with the bases still loaded and lifted a ball over the shortstop in shallow left to bring Haslett and Hopfauf in to make it 2-0.
After quiet innings in the second and third, Minot State threatened with the bases loaded and one out. Albrecht got a flyout that kept the runner from scoring from third, then a swinging strikeout got NoDak out of the inning. The green and white broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth—Hopfauf led off with a single to right, followed by singles from Castaneda and Neumayer. With the bases loaded, Mariah Peters doubled to center field to bring two runs in and make it 4-0. Brooklyn Morris walked to load the bases for Katie Joten, who brought in another run on a groundout. Dumlao followed with a single to right that brought in Morris and Peters to make it 7-0.
In the fifth, Castaneda led off with a walk and Olivia Dick pinch ran, scoring on a double from Neumayer that went deep into center field that finished the game.
Albrecht got the win while Reegan Floyd took the loss.
The Fighting Hawks will resume Summit League play at Oxford Sports Complex Saturday, hosting North Dakota State this weekend.
