GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Just hours before the newest members are set to be inducted, North Dakota Athletics and the UND Letterwinners Association celebrated a special ribbon cutting to unveil the new permanent home of the UND Letterwinners Athletics Hall of Fame display on Friday afternoon.
Located in the all-new climate controlled Hawkway, which connects the Hyslop at Memorial Village to the Nodak Insurance Company Sports Performance Center, the new display is adorned across the original bricks from Memorial Stadium to always connect the historic past to the flourishing future.
Champions Club Director Val Sussex served as the emcee for the event, while UND Director of Athletics
Bill Chaves also provided marks. Attendees included previous inductees, campus and athletic department officials, members of the UND Letterwinners Association and other special guests.
"We have a number of people who have been instrumental in relocating and re-imagining the Hall of Fame at UND," said Sussex. "Now, our fans, coaches, administrators, but most importantly, our current student-athletes can walk by every single day and dream about what it means to be in the Hall of Fame at UND."
"This ties everything that we've ever done at North Dakota Athletics together," said Chaves. "Our student-athletes are going to be able to go from here [Hyslop at Memorial Village] to there [Nodak Insurance Company Sports Performance Center] and say to themselves, 'Hey, can I be on this wall?' and that's a big, big deal."
Following the remarks, UND Letterwinners Association President Brian Westlund as well as other voting members of the committee helped cut the ribbon to officially open the permanent home for the forever enshrined.
Later this evening, eight new individuals and one team will be inducted to the UND Letterwinners Athletics Hall of Fame at Alerus Center. You can read more about the Class of 2025
