Hawks Get Back on Track in 7-1 Victory Over Green Bay

UND will run it back against Green Bay tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.

MURRAY, Ky. – The North Dakota softball team picked up a win on Thursday afternoon against Green bay by a score of 7-1 in the first game of the Velvet Milkman Classic. UND improves to 4-7 on the season while the Phoenix drop to 0-7 on the season.

The Hawks were led offensively by the duo of Jaedyn Valdez (3-for-3) and Makenna Alexander (2-for-3), combining for five of the teams seven hits. Alexander recorded two hits and three RBIs, while Valdez had three hits and one RBI. Brooklyn Morris and Camryn Lasota also contributed with hits, as Morris and Grayce Beck both picked up RBIs.

Tegan Livesay was dominant in the circle, taking a no-hit bid into the top of the 5th inning. The junior threw her fourth complete game this season, going 7.0 innings, allowing just three hits and one run, while walking two and striking out a career-high of six. She improves to 2-3 on the season.

How It Happened
Following a scoreless first inning from both teams, UND struck first in the top of the 2nd, when Lasota reached on an error, which drove in Valdez, giving UND a 1-0 lead.

The Hawks added two runs of insurance in the top of the 3rd via a Beck RBI bases loaded walk, and Morris sacrifice fly. The Hawks had two hits in the inning, taking a 3-0 lead.

NoDak blew it open in the 4th inning, when Alexander delivered a two-out bases double, bringing in Hailey Bethune, Katelyn Neumayer and Aleksia Severson, to give the Hawks a 6-0 lead. Valdez added insurance with an RBI single to follow, driving in Alexander to make it 7-0 in the 4th inning.

Livesay was nails, allowing her first hit in the bottom of the 5th. She threw just 87 pitches across the seven-inning complete game, leading the Hawks to a 7-1 win.

North Dakota will play the Phoenix again tomorrow at 12:30 from Racer Field.
