NoDak Drops Pair of Games in Second Day of Paradise Classic

UND will be back in action at 2 p.m. on Saturday against Pacific.

HONOLULI, Hawai'i – The North Dakota softball team lost two games on Friday in the Paradise Classic from Rainbow Wahine Stadium. UND fell 23-7 to Seattle in the first game and fell to Hawai'i in the night cap by a score of 4-2. North Dakota is now 1-3 on the season.

Game 1 vs. Seattle (L, 23-7)
The 16-run loss was not a true indicator of how the game went, as UND led by as many as three runs in the fourth inning. NoDak had a season-high 12 hits, led by Taya Hopfauf who went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in two RBIs. It was her fourth career three-hit game.

Camryn Lasota, Katelyn Neumayer and Annabeth Carlberg each had two hits and an RBI, while Makenna Alexander and Hailey Bethune each had a hit and an RBI as well. Brooklyn Morris logged a hit and two runs.

Tehya Armstrong started strong on the mound, allowing just three runs through the 4.0 innings, before giving up five runs in the fifth. Her line closed at 4.2 innings pitched with eight earned runs, seven hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Peyton Whitehead made her UND debut, closing the final 2.1 innings, allowing 15 runs (12 earned).

How It Happened
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the 1st, UND scored two in the bottom half, plagued by a Lasota RBI double and Neumayer sacrifice fly, to put UND up 2-1.

Following a scoreless 2nd inning, Seattle took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 3rd, before UND scored two runs on three hits in the bottom half, headlined by an Alexander RBI double and Carlberg RBI single, to put UND up 4-3. Hopfauf gave the Hawks some insurance in the 4th on an RBI double, to put NoDak up 6-3 after four.

Over the final three innings, Seattle cashed in on 20 runs, via 19 hits to pull away and win the ball game, 23-7.

Game 2 vs. Hawai'i (L, 4-2)
Game two involved a lot less scoring, as UND had only three hits and two runs. Camryn Lasota had two of the three hits, smacking her first home run of the season late in the game. Brooklyn Morris was the other Hawk to get a hit.

Unity Nelson went the distance, going 6.0 innings, allowing four runs and five hits, while walking five and striking out two.

How It Happened
It was scoreless through the first three innings, before Katelyn Neumayer hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the 4th inning to drive in Morris, giving UND a 1-0 lead.

That Hawks lead was short lived, as Hawai'i scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the 4th to put the Rainbow Wahine up 4-1.

North Dakota would only have one more hit the rest of the way, which was a Lasota home run in the top of the 7th. That nuke cut the deficit to 4-2, but there was no more, as UND fell 4-2 to Hawai'i.
The Hawks will cap off their trip in Honolulu tomorrow, with a game against Pacific at 2 p.m.
