SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
Camryn Lasota hit her third home run in five games, to lift the North Dakota softball team to a 5-2 victory against New Mexico State on the final day of the Birds Up Bash from Roadrunner field. UND has won three-straight games, improving to 12-8 on the season, while New Mexico State drops to 9-13 on the year. NoDak concludes the tournament with a 4-1 record.
UND played the comeback story once again, picking up its third come-from-behind win of the tournament. North Dakota trailed 2-0, before tacking on five-straight runs combined in the third and fourth innings to take the win.
The Hawks calculated just five hits, but four of them were for extra bases.
Chloe Bethune went 2-for-2 at the dish, while Lasota, Aleksia Severson and
Brooklyn Morris all had one hit.
Tehya Armstrong tossed her first career complete game, going a career-best 7.0 innings. She allowed two runs and five hits, while walking one and striking out five. She is now 3-2 on the season.
How It Happened
The Aggies struck first in the top of the first, scoring two runs on three hits. Armstrong weathered the storm, leaving two runners stranded at second and third base, striking out Taylor Baca to end the inning.
UND got things going in the bottom of the third when the first four players to come to bat got on base. Jaedyn Valdez started with a hit-by-pitch, which was followed by a
Chloe Bethune single, putting runners at first and second. Morris then delivered a double, scoring Valdez and advancing Bethune to third. Lasota then drew a walk, loading the bases with no outs.
Severson delivered an RBI fielders choice, tying the game at 2-2. Following a Hopfauf pop out and
Katelyn Neumayer hit by pitch, the bases were loaded with two outs.
Hailey Bethune came to hit and laid down a bunt, resulting in an error by the third baseman, allowing Morris to score. UND led 3-2 after three.
Armstrong sat the Aggies down 1-2-3 in the top of the fourth, before the Hawks struck with two more in the bottom half.
Chloe Bethune slapped a one-out double and was driven in on a Lasota two-run homer to center field, making it 5-2. It was Lasota's third home run of the tournament and fourth of the season.
There was just one hit on either side the rest of the game, coming from New Mexico State in the top of the seventh, on a one-out double by Destan Burks. Armstrong then got back-to-back groundouts from the Aggies, to secure the 5-2 victory.
North Dakota will next head to Norfolk, Va., for five games in the Spartan Round Up tournament from Friday-Sunday.
