Fighting Hawks Drop Rubber Game to Kansas City on Sunday

UND will be back in action on Tuesday at home against Crown College at 5 p.m.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The North Dakota softball team fell on Sunday afternoon to the Kansas City Roos by a score 3-0 in six innings. North Dakota drops to 23-16 and 1-5 in conference play while Kansas City improves to 14-22 and 5-7 in Summit League play.

The game was called in the sixth inning due to rain, with the Hawks manufacturing just two hits on the day compared to five from Kansas City. Both hits were recorded by Brooklyn Morris, via singles.

It was another complete game from Tegan Livesay who got the ball in the circle for the second consecutive game. Livesay tossed 5.2 innings, allowing five hits, three runs (two earned) and two walks while striking out three. It was her 11th complete game of the season, as she falls to 10-6 overall.

How It Happened
UND left two runners on in the top of the first inning, headlined by walks from Camryn Lasota and Jaedyn Valdez. NoDak had runners on first and second with one out, but Taya Hopfauf flew out to left field and Katelyn Neumayer grounded out to the pitcher, keeping it tied at 0-0.

The Roos did their damage early, scoring all three runs in the first two innings. Kansas City scored two runs on two hits and two errors in the bottom of the first, before scoring one run on one hit in the bottom of the second. Livesay stranded runners on first and third in the frame, forcing Megan Johnston to ground out, keeping the score at 3-0 going into the top of the third.

UND could not get much going in the contest, with Morris's singles being the only Hawks offense for the rest of the game. NoDak concluded the ball game with two hits and two walks, leaving a total of four runners on base.

In the bottom of the sixth with Mary Cunningham on third base and two outs, the game was paused due to rain. After 40 minutes, it was determined that the contest would come to an end, with the Hawks falling 3-0 in six innings.

North Dakota will return home on Tuesday for a game against Crown College at 5 p.m. Coverage can be found on the Summit League Network.
