UND Drops Midweek Contest to Gophers on Tuesday

The Hawks will play five home games this weekend, starting on Thursday against Omaha at 6 p.m.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The North Dakota softball took the loss on Tuesday evening against Minnesota by a score of 6-2 from Jane Sage Crowles Stadium. UND falls to 25-19 while the Gophers improve to 15-30.

The Fighting Hawks outhit Minnesota 9-5, but were unable to overcome a 5-0 deficit.  Eight different players on UND recorded a hit, led by Chloe Bethune who totaled two. Camryn Lasota, Quincie Chunestudey, Katelyn Neumayer, Jaedyn Valdez, Brooklyn House, Arianna Robillard and Brooklyn Morris all tallied a hit, with Bethune and Robillard logging RBIs.

Tehya Armstrong took the loss in the circle, dropping to 5-5 on the season. She threw 2.0 innings, giving up five runs (three earned), four hits and three walks to go along with three strikeouts. Unity Nelson came in for Armstrong, tossing 3.0 innings, allowing just one hit and one run, striking out two and walking six. Camryn Lasota tossed a scoreless of work, giving up no hits and striking out one.

How It Happened
Price led off the game with a walk, but Alexander then flied out to center field which was followed by a 2-4 strikeout, throw em' out double play, as Lasota struck out and Price was caught stealing to end the top of the first.

The Gophers scored one in the bottom of the first on one hit, before the Hawks stranded two on base in the top of the second. Minnesota exploded for four runs in the bottom of the second on three hits and two errors. The Gophers led 5-0 after two.

NoDak scored in the top of the fourth on a two-out RBI single from Chloe Bethune to score Chunestudey from second base, cutting the score to 5-1.

It was a scoreless bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth, before both teams struck with runs in the bottom of the fifth and top of sixth. The Hawks run came via a Robillard single, bringing home Brooklyn Hofer. UND had the bases loaded with one out, but Price and Alexander each made out to leave three runners on base. The Hawks trailed 6-2 going to the bottom of the sixth.

Lasota blanked the Gophers in the bottom of the sixth, which was followed by UND being blanked in the top of the seventh. NoDak fell 6-2.

North Dakota will be back in action on Thursday against Omaha at 6 p.m. to start a stretch of five home games in four days.
