SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Outdoor track and field competition returned for the North Dakota men's and women's squads out west as the Fighting Hawks took on the opening days of three separate meets in California on Friday.
MIKE FANELLI TRACK CLASSIC
Out in San Francisco, distance action started in dominant fashion as three Hawks placed in the top 15 of the women's 5000-meter run. Katie Rogers led the way with her personal best time of 16:31.92 that secured her a third-place finish and the third-best clocking in school history.
Marie-Louise Jorgensen followed next in her event debut with her fourth-place finish in 16:35.65 that now sits fourth all-time in UND history.
Olivia Correale rounded out the top finishes for North Dakota in 16:45.26 for 14
th place overall, a new PR and the sixth-best time in program history.
Two Fighting Hawks represented North Dakota in the women's 1500-meter run, led by
Gabriella Ruggeri's personal-best time of 4:37.32 for fourth in section seven of the event.
Brooklyn Brouse followed in section eight with her clocking of 4:40.78 that gave her second place for a new PR.
Jonas Weschle logged the lone results for the UND men at the meet in the 3000-meter steeplechase where he ran a time of 9:34.16. His new personal best was good enough for a 13
th-place finish in section overall for 30
th overall.
STANFORD INVITATIONAL
North Dakota's single result from the meet came in the men's 1500-meter run, where
Aleksa Milanovic crossed the finish line in 3:56.87 to take 12
th place overall in section six of the event.
TRITON INVITATIONAL
The first results from the meet in La Jolla came out of the women's hammer throw and was headlined by two top-nine performances.
Julia Matthews and
Cailey Moton each represented North Dakota in the event finals and went on to finish in fifth (185-2, 56.46m) and seventh (183-4, 55.90m), respectively.
Those throws marked new personal bests for each Matthews and Moton while Matthews jumped to ninth all-time in school history for the event.
Tomorrow's competition resumes at 10:30 a.m. CT at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and 11 a.m. CT at both the Stanford Invitational and Triton Invitational.
