AZUSA, Calif. – A four-day competition weekend opened up for North Dakota track and field on Thursday afternoon as three Fighting Hawks kicked off the heptathlon at the Bryan Clay Multis and competed in the first four of seven events.
In Group C of the event,
Kajsa Cabanas Andersson ended day one in 13
th place after completing three events. She first took 13
th in the 100-meter hurdles behind a time of 16.41 before finishing 13
th in the high jump with a mark of 4-9 3/4 (1.47m). A breakout performance soon followed in the shot put where the freshman took first place off her throw of 43-11 1/4 (13.39m) for a grand total of 2006 points through day one.
Two Fighting Hawks were placed in Group B and stand in back-to-back places with
Marta Marksa in ninth with 3071 points and
Eucabeth Kivikangas is in 10
th place with 3025 points.
Marksa achieved her point total off a day-high 998-point performance in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a 13.86 for third place. She tied in the high jump with a clearance of 5-1 1/4 (1.56m) before taking 11
th in the shot put behind her throw of 34-5 (10.49m) and topping off the first day with a PR in the 200-meter dash, where she took eighth in 25.72 seconds.
Kivikangas crossed the finish line in 14.89 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles to open up her heptathlon scoring, taking 10
th place in her group. She tied her fellow teammate for ninth in the high jump at 5-1 1/4 (1.56m) and soon added in a strong showing in the shot put with her throw of 40-5 (12.32m) that gave her a fourth-place finish. The junior then concluded the day with a clocking of 25.99 for 10
th place in the 200-meter dash.
Competition at the Bryan Clay Multis resumes tomorrow afternoon with Group C beginning the remaining events at 2 p.m. central time.
