Strong Seventh Inning Propels UND to 4-1 Victory Over St. Thomas

The Hawks ended the season with a program record 28 wins.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The North Dakota softball team closed out the 2026 season with a 4-1 victory over St. Thomas from South Field on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks finish the year at 28-24 and 5-12 in Summit League play while the Tommies drop to 34-17 and 12-5 in conference play.

With the score tied at 1-1, UND poured on three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-1 lead. Brooklyn Morris logged two hits on the day, headlined by the go-ahead double to break the 1-1 tie.

Makenna Alexander, Annabeth Carlberg and Camryn Lasota each recorded hits, as the Hawks outhit the Tommies 5-3 overall. Alexander added some insurance in the seventh with a two-RBI single to put the team up three runs.

Tehya Armstrong did her thing in the circle, picking up the win and improving to 6-6 on the season. She tossed seven innings and allowed just one run on three hits with four strikeouts and walks apiece. It was her third complete game of the season.

How It Happened
UND fell behind 1-0 as St. Thomas opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first on one hit. The Hawks tied the game in the top of the fifth on three hits, started by a Carlberg single to centerfield. Hailey Bethune sacrifice bunted Carlberg over to second, before Lasota drove in Carlberg with an RBI single to center, tying the game at 1-1.

St. Thomas had a chance to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth, but left the bases loaded. Armstrong struck out the first batter, but surrendered a walk to Cassidy Carby and then a single to Ella Cook, advancing Carby to third. Cook then stole second, giving the Tommies runners on second and third with one out.

Armstrong got a huge second out, forcing Abbi Strielen to foul out to Hailey Bethune at third base. She then walked Kameron Monson to load the bases, but got Morgan Klein to pop out to Alexander at second base to end the frame.

NoDak won the game in the top of the seventh, providing three runs on two hits. Two of the first three Fighting Hawks reached via walks, with Carlberg and Lasota drawing base on balls to give the away team runners on first and second with one out. The next batter was Brooklyn House, who grounded into a 6-4 fielders choice, leaving runners on the corners with two outs.

Morris came to the plate and lined a double to right field, bringing home pinch runner Tyler Price from third to give NoDak a 2-1 lead. Alexander then added two more insurance runs, lining a two-RBI single to left field, bringing home pinch runner Aleksia Severson from third and Morris from second. The Hawks took a commanding 4-1 advantage.

Armstrong worked around a one-out walk in the top of the seventh to retire the Tommies. North Dakota ended the season with a bang, taking the win, 4-1.
