HILLSDALE, Mich. – North Dakota track and field was represented by its throwers in Wednesday afternoon action at the Hillsdale Last Chance meet where four Fighting Hawks claimed two runner-up finishes and two event wins to highlight the day.
The headlining event wins each came in the women's hammer throw events.
Haidyn Skeen won the event with her mark of 160-7 (48.96m) while in the women's elite section,
Cailey Moton also collected a win following her mark of 186-4 (56.81m). She was joined by three other Fighting Hawks in those elite finals as
Kaylynn Red Tomahawk took second (185-10, 56.64m, PR),
Julia Matthews came third (182-9, 55.71m) and
Katelyn Vesledahl was seventh (168-6, 51.37m).
Over at the men's hammer throw competition,
Boaz Raderschadt secured seventh place following a throw of 164-5 (50.12m) as
Lucas Schweigert claimed ninth with a mark of (160-4, 48.89m).
Schweigert also represented the Fighting Hawks in the men's discus throw finals, finishing fourth overall with his mark of 143-4 (43.70m) while over in the women's half of the event,
Ilaria Villa claimed runner-up. She did so off a throw of 144-1 (43.93m) as Skeen joined her in the finals and finished eighth with her mark of 131-5 (40.07m).
In the shot put, another runner-up finish came in the form of Raderschadt, who took second place following his throw of 51-10 1/2 (15.81m). Two Fighting Hawks placed in the top-five of the women's portion of the same event as Matthews (46-3 1/2, 14.11m) took third and Skeen (42-7, 12.98m) was fifth.
The week's action continues for North Dakota track and field at the NDSU Tune-Up this Friday, May 8 in Fargo.
