Carl Reinholz will be entering his 10th year on the defensive staff in 2024 and coaches the inside linebackers. He was elevated to his current role prior to the 2019 season and was previously a defensive assistant and video coordinator.

Coach Reinholz’s inside linebackers were instrumental in North Dakota’s success in 2023 and led the defensive unit in several categories. Wyatt Pedigo led the nation in fumble recoveries (4.0) and ended the year as an All-MVFC selection. He also tied for No. 17 in the league in total sacks and led the defense in total tackles (72), solo tackles (47), TFL’s (7.5) and sacks (4.0). Malachi McNeal started every game at inside linebacker as well and was second on the team in total tackles (68), solo stops (43) and tackles-for-loss (7.0).

In 2022, inside linebackers Devon Krzanowski and Pedigo sat near the top of the defensive unit in several categories to help UND. Krzanowski ended the season with honorable mention All-MVFC accolades, pacing the team in both tackles (65) and solo stops (35) while finishing second in TFL’s with 5.5. Pedigo broke onto the scene with an interception in both of the first two games of the season and was No. 9 in the MVFC in interceptions per game with 0.2, while also sitting second on North Dakota’s roster for solo tackles with 34.

With the help of Reinholz’s coaching in 2021, inside linebackers Krzanowski and Noah Larson paced UND with 68 and 59 total tackles, while Jaxson Turner’s six sacks allowed him to become the UND Division I leader in sacks in a career with 22.

In the 2020-21 season, Krzanowski finished near the top of the league in tackles, TFL’s and led the team in turnovers forced to earn a runner-up selection as the MVFC Defender of the Year. Krzanowski was also named to the MVFC All-Newcomer Team at the conclusion of the season.

Turner had a breakout year in 2019 with the help of Reinholz’s leadership, finishing second on the team in sacks with 4.5, while racking up 44 tackles. Jade Lawrence also put in a career-best campaign in his final season with 51 total tackles, a pair of sacks and two interceptions.

From the 2015-18 seasons, Reinholz assisted the defensive coaches and ran the scout team offense. He was also a volunteer intern for the program during the 2014 season following a four-year playing career at Minot State.

Reinholz lettered four years at wide receiver for the Beavers under former UND offensive coordinator Paul Rudolph. He earned his bachelor’s degree in corporate fitness from Minot State in 2014 and prepped at Rapelje (Mont.) High School near his hometown of Molt, Mont.
