Sydney Smith joined the Fighting Hawks in October 2025 as the Director of Communications for women’s soccer, women’s basketball and men’s and women’s tennis.
Smith comes to UND after a year at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D., where she held the title of Assistant Director of Communications and served as the primary contact for women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, wrestling, softball and track and field. During her time with the Vikings, Smith steered statistical operations for the volleyball and softball teams, spearheaded coverage of AU's 2025 National Runners-Up wrestling team & individual national champion and managed the social content, media requests and coverage for her five sports.
Prior to her time at Augustana, Smith spent three years as an Athletic Communications intern at South Dakota State. She was the primary contact for cross country and track and field and assisted with social coverage throughout the department, including two NCAA March Madness Men’s Basketball Tournaments and one NCAA Softball Tournament.
The Redfield, S.D.-native graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from South Dakota State in December 2022 with minors in Communication Studies and Political Science.
