Tyler Burmeister joined the University of North Dakota in the Fall of 2017 and currently serves as the Assistant Athletics Director of Student-Athlete Development where he oversees the personal, professional, and leadership development of UND student-athletes. His primary roles include facilitating the student-athlete leadership academy (Hawkademy), serving as an advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Student-Athletes for Inclusion & Diversity groups, assisting student-athletes with their career development, and overseeing all community service opportunities.
Since his time at UND, the department has continuously earned national honors and recognition for service, including leading the nation in community service impact score in 2021-22. Also in 2021, Burmeister and UND launched the NoDak Net app, aimed to serve as an incubator for career development and mentorships between current UND student-athletes and UND athletics alumni.Â

Prior to UND, Burmeister spent one year at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst where he served as the academic counselor for the men’s baseball, men’s swim & dive, and women’s rowing programs as well as the athletic department tutorial coordinator. During his graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Burmeister assisted the Office of Academic Services, Office of Student-Athlete Development, and the Badgers Give Back community outreach program.

A native of Madison, WI, Burmeister is an active member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A), serving on the Best Practices Committee. He was a member of the inaugural Steve McDonnell Professional Development Institute-Student-Athlete Development Track in 2018 and received recognition as a nominee for the N4A Region IV Professional Promise Award in 2019. Burmeister has also participated in the NCAA Leadership Development Emerging Leaders Seminar, NCAA Leadership Academy Workshop, NCAA Effective Facilitation Workshop, and served as a facilitator for the NCAA Leadership Forum and Career in Sports Forum. In 2021, Burmeister was named the inaugural UND Changemaker by CVIC at UND.Â
