Former UND goaltender Matt Hrynkiw joined his alma mater’s coaching staff as a volunteer goaltending coach in August 2017.

Hrynkiw was a four-year letterwinner for UND from 2013-14 to 2016-17 and graduated in May 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native appeared in 18 collegiate games and went 11-5-2 with a 2.09 goals against average, .911 save percentage and two shutouts.

Hrynkiw’s best year came during UND’s 2015-16 NCAA championship season, when he appeared in a career-high 14 games as a junior and went 10-2-2 with a 2.13 GAA and .910 save percentage. He was named the co-recipient of UND’s Unsung Hero Award after posting the 10th-best single-season GAA in school history.

During his four seasons at UND, the program compiled a 109-46-13 (.688) record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in all four years, including NCAA Frozen Four appearances in each of the last three.

Highly-accomplished off the ice as well, Hrynkiw was a four-time selection to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s (NCHC) All-Academic Team and was the co-recipient of the league’s Sportsmanship Award in 2016-17.
