Huskies slip past Sioux with late goal

GRAND FORKS, N.D.--Dave Iannazzo's goal with 1:53 left in the third period broke a 1-1 tie and gave seventh-ranked St. Cloud State a 2-1 win over top-ranked North Dakota Friday night in front of 11,107 fans at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Iannazzo's game-winner came when a forechecking Andy Lundbohm gained control of the puck down low in the Fighting Sioux zone and dished to Iannazzo. Iannazzo maneuvered into the right faceoff circle and tucked a wrist shot past UND goalie Jake Brandt (Jr., Roseau, Minn.) on the short side.

Brandt was tested just 24 times in the game, but stopped 22 shots, including several quality scoring chances. SCSU starter Adam Coole matched Brandt save-for-save, stopping 32 UND shots.

UND's lone goal came at 15:37 of the second period when Brandon Bochenski (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) took a Matt Jones (Jr., Lisle, Ill.) pass and blasted a shot past Coole from the left faceoff circle, pulling the Sioux even with the Huskies at 1-1. The goal was Bochenski's team-leading ninth of the season.

SCSU had opened the scoring just 2:26 into the game on a Matt Hendricks goal.

Power-play opportunities dominated the game, but neither team found muchs success with the man advantage; the Sioux went 0-for-9 while the Huskies clicked once on eight chances.

The loss, which snaps UND's winning-streak at four games, drops the Sioux to 6-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the WCHA. The Huskies, who sit atop the WCHA standings, improve to 8-0-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the WCHA.

The series concludes Saturday night with a 7:05 start.
