GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Sioux women's hockey team lost to Minnesota Duluth in their final home game of the season, 5-1. It was the final home series for Fighting Sioux seniors; Aynsley Allen (St. Andrews, Man.) and Alexia Gagnon-Laplante (Sainte-Therese, Que.).
Minnesota Duluth scored two goals in a 15 second span during the first period that gave them a lead that it wouldn't relinquish. The game-winning goal was scored by UMD's Jessica Koizumi.
North Dakota's only goal came from Ashley Lynch (Fr., Gilbert Plains, Man.) at the 10:29 mark of the third period. Lynch's goal was her third of the season.
North Dakota had eight power play chances and was able to capitalize on one of the chances when Lynch fired one past UMD goalie, Kim Martin.
Minnesota Duluth outshot the Fighting Sioux 36-15. North Dakota goalie, Brittany Kirkham (Fr., Nepean, Ont.) saved 31 shots. Kirkham has now stopped 30 or more shots in a game 12 times this season.
North Dakota returns to action on Friday against St. Cloud State. Game time is set for 7:07 p.m.
