GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Fighting Sioux women's hockey team suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the tenth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State scored two goals in the second period and never looked back. North Dakota would answer back with a goal by Jenny Porter (Fr., Faribault, Minn.) early in the third period, but it was too little too late for the Fighting Sioux.
North Dakota and Ohio State skated to a 0-0 first period tie, but Ohio State's Amber Bowman ended the scoring drought with a goal five minutes and 38 seconds into the second period. Ohio State's Jody Heywood would add another goal just under four minutes later to give the Buckeyes the two-goal advantage.
Early in the third period, North Dakota's Jenny Porter (Fr., Faribault, Minn.) scored its only goal. Porter was assisted by Jade Schirado (Fr., Bismarck, N.D.).
With the loss, North Dakota falls to 3-25-2 overall and 0-23-1 in the WCHA. Ohio State improves to 16-10-4 overall and 11-9-4 in the WCHA.
The loss is North Dakota's fourteenth straight, which is now the longest losing streak in Fighting Sioux history.
North Dakota returns to action on Saturday against Minnesota Duluth. Game time is at 2:07 p.m. and will be played at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.
