Senior becomes four-time national champion

GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? The Fighting Sioux swimming and diving teams head into the final day of competition with high hopes. The men are have been fixed in second place since competition commenced on Wednesday, while the women have moved from ninth to seventh place over the three days.

 

UND's Rodrigo Ferreira has remained constant with his finishes in the 100 backstoke at nationals since his debut four years ago. The senior swam to a first-place finish today, making Ferreira a four-time champion, an honor few achieve.

 

Teammates Pedro Pereira and Dan Zabler also had strong individual performances on the men's side. Pereira earned a third place performance in the 100 breaststroke and Zabler matched his success in the 200 butterfly.

 

The men's relay team once again finished at the top of competition when they nabbed second place in the 800 freestyle relay.

 

Natalia Busso had the lone standout performance on the women's side with her sixth place finish in the 500 freestyle.

 

The diving team rounded out the Sioux's achievements during day three when they added another All-American honor to their list. Chris Bancroft was awarded seventh place on the one-meter board.

 

Competition concludes tomorrow.
