GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- North Dakota's junior goaltender Brittany Kirkham (Ottawa, Ontario) was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for her performance against St. Cloud State, Friday.
Kirkham stopped 32 of 33 opponent shots on goal and posted two shutout periods to backstop the Fighting Sioux to a 2-1 win. Twenty-two of those saves came over the final two periods and six came while the sioux were killing penalties.
Kirkham is now 1-1 on the year with a 2.03 goals-allowed average and a .922% save percentage.
It is the second time Kirkham has earned the award with the first coming after she recorded a school-record three consecutive shutouts in a sweep of Bemidji State (Oct. 19-20) and a tie with Ohio State (Oct. 26) last season.
Kirkham is the daughter of Reg and Terri Kirkham.
