Sioux men finish sixth at Missouri Invite

 

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of North Dakota men's swim team finished sixth with 233 points after three days of competition at the Missouri Tiger Invitational. The Fighting Sioux did not participate in this evening's finals session.

 

Host team Missouri won the meet with 1,171 points, Drury finished second with 868 points, and Southern Illinois took third with a score of 566. Missouri A&T finished in fourth with 476 points and Arizona State placed fifth with a score of 416.

In the 1650 free, George Philbin (Fr., Plymouth, Minn.) placed 21st (17:09.83), senior Jeremy Blankenship (Studio City, Calif.) took 22nd (17:10.33) and Zac Gosney (Fr., Bainbridge Island, Wash.) took 23rd (17:24.49).

The following are the top times for the Fighting Sioux in the preliminaries:

200 back - Chase Fillingham (Sr., Bloomington, Ill.) - 1:55.72

100 free - Daniel Moraes (Sr., Salvador, Brazil) - 46.49

200 breast - Keisuke Yagi (Sr., Tokyo, Japan) - 2:04.77

200 fly - Dominic Ponce (Fr., Loveland, Colo.) - 1:59.09

The UND 400 free relay 'A' team of Moraes, Ben Adams (So., Sitka, Alaska), Nathan Jobe (So., Fergus Falls, Minn.), and Ian McKenzie (Fr., Norman, Okla.) clocked in at 3:08.38 in the time trials and the 'B' team of Philbin, Andrew DeShaw (So., Stillwater, Minn.), Ben Swanson (Fr., Sauk Rapids, Minn.), and Andrew Goll (Fr., Baxter, Minn.) timed in at 3:16.16.

North Dakota will take the rest of the month off before taking on the Tampa Invite in Tampa, Fla., on Jan. 6.
