No. 1 Minnesota hands Sioux 5-0 loss

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- The University of North Dakota women's hockey team could not get much offense going tonight, as the top-ranked Minnesota Gophers skate their way to a 5-0 win at Ridder Arena.

The Gophers outshot the Sioux 44-16 in the game as UND's goaltender Stephanie Ney (100 Mile House, British Columbia) recorded 39 saves while allowing four goals and UM backstop Jenny Lura stopped all 16 shots faced.

The Sioux drop to 13-15-4 and 9-14-3-0 in the conference while the Gophers stay on top of the WCHA improving to 21-2-3 and 26-3-3 overall.

Jocelyne Lamouruex scored in the opening frame at 11:38 as she was in the slot and was able to get her stick on a shot from the point. After hitting her stick, the puck redirected up and over Ney into the net.

The Gophers broke the game open in the second period with three goals. Sarah Erickson scored at 2:37, Jocelyne Lamoureux found the back of the net for the second time in the game, this time short-handed (6:00), and Emily West scored on a breakaway to push the lead to 4-0.

Gigi Marvin would add a empty-net goal with 19 seconds left in regulation to conclude the games scoring.

Both teams went unsuccessful on the power play as the Sioux went 0-for-5 and the Gophers went 0-for-3.

The Sioux will conclude the regular season at home next weekend in a Friday/Saturday series against defending national champion Minnesota-Duluth  scheduled for 7:07 p.m. and 4:07 p.m. starts, respectively.
