EDINBURG, Texas - In her first year as a Fighting Sioux, junior
Lindsay Anderson has delivered North Dakota its first Division I individual conference championship.
Running a personal-record time of 16:46.31, Anderson finished in first place this morning at the 2010 Great West Conference Cross Country Championship. A native of Leeds, N.D., who transferred to UND from Iowa prior to the season, Anderson won the 5K race by a stunning 13-second margin over her next-closest competitor.
It was UND's first individual cross country conference title since Kim Olund won back-to-back titles in 1994 and 1995.
Anderson and teammate Emily Emerson (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn.), who placed fifth, were both named to the 2010 All-GWC first team. Emerson clocked a personal-best time of 17:14.11.
The Fighting Sioux finished third in the eight-team standings with a team score of 74 points, which trailed only team champion Utah Valley (39) and runner-up Texas-Pan American (72), the 11th-ranked team in the South Central region.
UND junior Katherine Enabnit (Carmichael, Calif.) narrowly missed out on joining Anderson and Emerson on the all-conference team, placing 15th with a personal-best time of 17:49.47.
UVU head coach Scott Houle was named GWC Coach of the Year, while UVU's Kody Kleven was named GWC Freshman of the Year.
UND will conclude the 2010 season with a Nov. 13 meet at South Dakota.
