Sioux taking advantage of Thanksgiving weekend off

Sioux host second-ranked Wisconsin

THIS WEEK: The eighth-ranked Fighting Sioux (8-4-2 overall, 7-3-2 WCHA) face second-ranked Wisconsin. Wisconsin is the only conference team the Sioux have yet to play in 2010-11.

TUNE IN: Nearly All UND women's hockey games can be heard on 1440 AM ("The Fan") in Grand Forks and on stations across the Fighting Sioux Radio Network (excluding Sunday games). Darrin Looker calls the play-by-play action for the Sioux. For the first time in program history, select road games will be aired this season as well.

Midco Sports Network is showing four live home games this season in Oct. 2 vs. Boston University, Oct. 8 vs. Minnesota Duluth and both games against Minnesota (Feb. 18-19).

Links to live audio, a live audio/video web cast, live stats, and a live chat will also be available on FightingSioux.com.

ABOUT WISCONSIN: The Badgers enter this weekend ranked second in the nation, dropping from the top spot for the first time since mid-October. They currently share first place in the WCHA standings with Minnesota Duluth, one point ahead of UND.

Wisconsin split with Minnesota Duluth last weekend, winning a thriller at the Kohl Center in Madison last Friday. UW scored the game-tying goal with 25 seconds left in regulation and the game-winner just 10 seconds into overtime, providing a 3-2 victory.

Defending national champion Minnesota Duluth secured a 3-1 victory over then top-ranked Wisconsin this past Sunday, gaining a Thanksgiving weekend series split in Madison and moving into a first place tie with the Badgers in the tight WCHA women's standings.

SERIES HISTORY: The Badgers lead the all-time series 26-2-0 over UND, but both UND wins came last season as the Sioux skated to a 2-0 shutout win, on the night the Badgers hung their national championship banner, and a 3-1 win at the Urban Plains Center in Fargo N.D.

UND'S LAST ACTION: For the first time in program history, the Sioux put up a six-spot in back-to-back games defeating the Huskies 6-3 and 6-1 on Nov. 19-20.

HOW 'SWEEP' IT IS: The sweep over SCSU was the first for the Sioux at the REA this season and second overall, including at No. 3 Minnesota. It was also the first home sweep since Dec. 12-13, 2008 against Bemidji State.

NO 'L' IN NEY: Stephanie Ney remains unbeaten on the year with a 4-0-2 record with a 1.30 goals against average and .946 save percentage, which ranks third and fourth in the nation, respectively. She is also one of three remaining goalies that are undefeated, having competed in at least 33 percent of team's minutes.

PROVED IT: It took five years and one day but Jocelyne Lamoureux's hat trick on Oct. 23 was the first recorded by a Sioux since Cami Wooster accomplished the three-goal mark on Oct. 22, 2005. She was able to repeat the feat less than a month later with another three-goal game against St. Cloud State on Nov. 19

SANTA'S LITTLE HELPER: Alyssa Wiebe now has 46 assists in her career, which is the Fighting Sioux career record.

WHAT YOU CAN DO I CAN DO BETTER: The Lamoureux twins continue to pace each other on the season tied with a team-leading 19 points which ranks 16th in the nation at 1.73 per game. Lamoureux has 12 goals (sixth in the nation) and Lamoureux-Kolls has 12 assists (fifth in the nation).

OFFENSE FROM DEFENSE: Defenseman Jordan Slavin has three goals and five assists in 10 games since returning after missing the first four games from an off-season injury. She would rank ninth in the nation with 0.80 points per game from a defenseman but is just outside the required 75 percent of team games played.

FANS IN THE STANDS: The Fighting Sioux enter the weekend ranked second in the nation in attendance per game at home, averaging 1,401 which is topped only by Wisconsin.

WHERE WE SIT: The Sioux rank eighth in both the women's hockey national polls after last weekend's action.
