GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of North Dakota men's swimming team has one more chance this year to prove it is capable of competing at the Division I level as it takes part in the 2010 CUSA Championships in Houston, Texas, beginning Feb. 24.
Last year at the CUSA meet, the men's team finished fourth and set seven new UND standards.
Already this season, three swimmers have posted top 10 times.
Current UND record-holder in the 200 free, 200 I.M., 400 free relay, and 800 free relay, Daniel Moraes (Sr., Salvador, Brazil) added a No. 4 finish in the 200 I.M. with a time of 1:51.83, and an eighth-place rank in the 200 free with a time of 1:40.72. Both times were registered at the Tiger Invite (Dec. 4).
Senior Keisuke Yagi (Bunkyo, Tokyo), who holds the record in the 200 breast, now also ranks No. 3 in the 100 breast with a time of 56.36 (Tampa Relays; Jan. 6) and is tied at No. 4 in the 200 breast with Vesa Nurmiviita with a time of 2:04.77 (Tiger Invite).
Senior Chase Fillingham (Bloomington, Ill.), record-holder in the 400 I.M., is now listed No. 5 in the 200 back with a time of 1:52.89 and with a time of 51.77 in the 100 back ranks seventh. Both times were posted at the SDSU/UND/USD triangular on Jan. 30.
