GRAND FORKS, N.D.- University of North Dakota sophomore middle distance runner Emily Emerson has been named Great West Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week.
Emerson, a native of Lino Lakes, Minn., placed third in the 800-meters at the Coastal Carolina University Shamrock Invitational in Conway, S.C., last weekend, the weekend's largest meet on the East Coast. Emerson's time of 2:12.85 was not only a personal record, but was the seventh-fastest time in UND history.
It is the second straight GWG Athlete of the Week honor for Emerson, who is currently ranked 28th nationally among Division I women in the 800-meters.
Emerson and the Sioux return to action on Friday, April 2 at the USD/SDSU/UND Duals in Brookings, S.D.
