YANKTON, S.D.--University of North Dakota senior Brittany Brenny and sophomore Emily Emerson combined for three top-three finishes and two personal records today, leading the Fighting Sioux to a fourth-place finish at the 2010 Great West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Williams Field.
UND finished the three-day meet with 79 points.
Brenny, a native of Staples, Minn., was the runner-up in the 5,000-meter run and recorded a personal-record time of 17:19.52. Brenny's performance was the fifth-fastest 5K time in UND history.
Emerson, meanwhile, accounted for third-place finishes in both the 1,500-meter and 800-meter runs. The Lino Lakes, Minn., native established a new personal record in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:33.52, which ranks as the fifth-fastest time ever recorded by a Sioux runner. She also clocked a time of 2:15.24 in the 800-meters.
Emerson's teammate, Meghan Enabnit (So., Carmichael, Calif.) finished seventh in the 800-meters.
Junior Jessica Butler (Grand Rapids, Minn.) enjoyed a pair of top-five finishes for the Sioux, placing third in the 100-meter hurdles and fifth in the high jump. Butler also teamed with Cheri Boyer (So., Barney, N.D.), Pagie Kuplic (Fr., Savage, Minn.) and Sarah Fegley (Jr., Berthhold, N.D.) for a fourth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay.
Fegley also took third in the triple jump with a personal-record leap of 37-11.50 feet (11.57 meters). Teammate Mikaela Hirst (So., Bismarck, N.D.) placed fifth in the same event.
Freshman Megan Storstad (Grand Forks) took fourth place in the javelin with a throw of 120 feet, 11 inches (36.86 meters).
Utah Valley won the conference championship with 301 points. UVU's Scott Houle was named GWC Coach of the Year and Mary Nothum was named GWC Female Athlete of the Year. South Dakota's Kate Wellensiek was named Female Newcomer of the Year.
