BROOKINGS, S.D. - The University of North Dakota men's swimming and diving team picked up a pair of wins this evening as the Fighting Sioux defeated host South Dakota State 149-144 and Western Illinois 231-60.
UNs 200 medley relay 'A' team of Adam Gannon (Plymouth, Minn.), Austin Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Elliot Wilcox (Hastings, Minn.), and Ben Adams (Sitka, Alaska) opened the evening with a first-place finish with a time of 1:35.44. The 'B' team of Jacob Berry (Cambridge, Minn.), David Flickinger (Moorhead, Minn.), Clinton Larson (La Plata, N.M.), and Cameron Hyde (Sartell, Minn.) finished fifth with a time of 1:40.66.
Gannon went on to take first in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.65, the 200 breast with a time of 2:09.05, and the 200 IM (1:55.11).
"Adam had a great meet tonight," head coach Steve Parsons said. "Each of his wins were key in us picking up both wins."
Philbin placed second in the 100 free (10:07.54) and the 100 free (49.07), and placed sixth in the 500 free (5:04.82). Berry finished third in the 100 back (54.96), Flickinger placed second in the 200 fly (1:57.42) and the 100 fly (52.25), and Wilcox touched second in the 50 free (22.07).
Ethan Shrader (Butte, Mont.) finished third in the 200 back (1:59.88) and Zachary Stettner (Minnetonka, Minn.) placed second in the 500 free (4:51.19).
Smith won the 100 breast with a time of 58.91, took second in the 200 breast (2:13.67) and placed fourth in the 100 fly (54.52).
On the boards, Richard Eberle (Fort Collins, Colo.) won both the 1-meter (279.80) and the 3-meter (313.25). Andrew Germain (Blaine, Minn.) finished third on the 3-meter with a score of 244.40.
"Richard was really on his game tonight," Parsons said. "He is extremely talented and he dove at his highest level tonight."
The Fighting Sioux are off until Saturday, Nov. 12 when they travel to Evanston, Ill., to take on host Northwestern, Illinois-Chicago and Wyoming.
