NYKOPING, Sweden --- The 2011 Four Nations Cup commenced play on Wednesday with Jocelyne Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D) and Monique Lamoureux-Kolls (Grand Forks, N.D.) leading the U.S. National Team to an 8-0 rout over Sweden while Michelle Karvinen (Rodovre, Denmark) and Finland got shutout in a 5-0 loss to Canada.
After a scoreless first period, Lamoureux-Kolls scored the game's first goal and eventual game-winner at 2:45 of the second period. She would finish the game tied for the team lead in points with Kelli Stack who each scored two goals and added one assist.
Lamoureux scored on the power play with only 21 seconds remaining to cap off scoring in the game. She finished with two points (1-1-2).
Karvinen had a pair of shots on goal but Finland couldn't find the back of the net playing from behind for a majority of the game. Canada scored only 46 seconds into the opening frame and added two goals in the first period, two in the second period and both teams went scoreless in the third period.
Canada and the U.S. square off in the first game on Thursday morning before Sweden and Finland. Both games are rematches of the 2011 World Championships and 2010 Winter Olympics.
In division I action in Fussen, Germany, Norway defeated Japan 4-3. Jorid Dagfinrud (Sarpsborg, Norway) was the winning goaltender and Andrea Dalen (Honefoss, Norway) collected one point with an assist.
Former Sioux defensman Susanne Fellner (Fronhofer, Germany) helped Germany to a 3-0 win over Slovakia.
