GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota head swimming and diving coach Steve Parsons and diving coach Brian Strom announced today that Andrew Germain and Erin Grabanski have signed NLIs to join the Fighting Sioux starting the 2011-12 season.
A native of Blaine, Minn., Germain is an All-American qualifier (489.50) and was named Diver of the Year and most valuable at Blaine High School. This past summer, he finished ninth on the 1-meter and 15th on the 3-meter at the USA Diving Summer Region 5 Championships and 14th on the 1-meter and 19th on the 3-meter at the USA Diving Summer Junior Zone C Championships.
"Andrew will be a great addition to the men's team," Parsons said. "He has a strong diving background. He should have an immediate impact and we will be looking for him to really challenge our current divers. Andrew will be fun to watch dive come this fall."
A local product from Red River High School, Grabanski won the 200 IM and the 100 back at the 2010 North Dakota Girls High School State Championship. She was also a 100 back finalist at the 2011 YMCA Short Course Championship.
"Erin will definitely add depth and talent to an already solid backstroke group," Parsons said. "She has four solid strokes and I look for her to have an impact in both IM events. We are excited to have Erin on the team this fall and expect her to have an impact on our team from day one."
