Gray opens Big Sky heptathlon with shot put PR

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Senior Megan Gray achieved a personal record in the shot put, as the 2013 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championship opened today with the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon.

Gray hit a throw of 10.25 meters (33'7.5") to highlight her opening-day performance in the first four of seventh heptathlon events. The St. Cloud, Minn., native is in 14th place overall with 2,557 points with the final three events -- the long jump, javelin and 800-meters scheduled for Thursday.

Gray opened today's events with a time of 14.87 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. She cleared 1.53 meters (5'1/4") in the high jump and clocked a time of 27.65 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Joenisha Vinson of host Portland State is in first place with 3,360 points.

Gray was UND's only day one participant on either the men's or women's side.

The multi-events will conclude on Thursday and the regular portion of the meet will start on Friday with throwing events at 10:30 a.m. Running events will begin at 2:15 p.m.

The meet will conclude on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m. with the field events, following by the running events at 12 p.m.
