Saccoman breaks UND?s oldest outdoor school record

DES MOINES, Iowa – University of North Dakota senior Sam Saccoman broke a 31-year old school record today at the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium.

Saccoman set the school record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14 minutes, 51.42 seconds, taking down Gerry Werven's record of 14:57.70 that he set in 1983. It had been UND's longest-standing outdoor school record prior to tonight's effort by Saccoman, a Hibbing, Minn., native.

In other action, freshman Drew Campbell ran a personal-record time of 9:41.78 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and placed third.

Additionally, Colin Cottingham and Ross Nelson placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 10K run. Cottingham, a freshman from Grand Rapids, Minn., clocked a time of 33:15.25. Nelson, a senior from Apple Valley, Minn., finished in 34:06.96.

UND does not have any participants scheduled for Saturday's final day of competition.
