NORWALK, Calif. – North Dakota's 3-day, 4-meet journey through Los Angeles concluded today at the Beach Track & Field Invitational at Cerritos College.
UND received several notable performances on the final day of the trip.
Freshman Tyler Olson won his section in the 400-meters and placed 19th overall among 79 runners, clocking a time of 49.09 seconds.
Another freshman, Jared Michel, was the runner-up in his section of the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 54.30. His time placed him 19th out of 46 participants.
In the 200-meters, John LeClerc and Jimmy Evers finished 1-2 in their section with both running personal-record times. LeClerc posted a time of 22.71 seconds, while Evers was right behind at 22.87.
Senior Kohl Koppinger logged a PR in the pole vault, winning his flight with a mark of 15 feet, 6 ¼ inches (4.73 meters). He placed seventh overall among 55 participants.
Another senior, Shawn Johnson, placed eighth out of 62 entrants in the discus, hitting a mark of 175-10 (53.59). He also finished 12th of out of 46 – and third in his flight – in the shot put with a toss of 53-6 ½ (16.32).
On Friday, senior thrower Roman Waldera hit a personal record in the hammer throw, winning his flight with a mark of 180 feet, 8 inches (55.08 meters). Teammate and classmate Jakob Bissell also won his heat in the hammer with a throw of 188-02 (57.35), just shy of the school record he had set one night earlier.
