MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Senior Shawny Kramer threw for a school-record mark for the second time this year as the University of North Dakota women's track and field team competed at the Jack Johnson Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Kramer, who hails from Watkins, Minn., broke UND's weight throw record, hitting a mark of 58 feet, 4.75 inches (17.80 meters). Her performance was good enough for an eighth-place finish overall.
“This is one of the most competitive meets for our throwers this season before the Big Sky Championship,” track and field assistant coach Drew Jones said following the meet, and the throwing contingent was up for the challenge.
Sophomore Katarina Reller (Grand Forks, N.D.) won her flight in the weight throw and finished ninth behind Kramer with a toss of 58-01.75 (17.72), which also broke the old school record set by Kramer back on Dec. 6.
Freshman Molli Detloff (Elk River, Minn.) set a new record for a freshman in the weight throw, placing fourth in her flight with a throw of 54-08.25 (16.67). Senior Samantha Guenther (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and junior Bethany Schultz (Rochester, Minn.) each placed third in their flights in the weight throw. Junior Jayd Eggert (Minot, N.D.) was right behind Detloff in fifth place in her flight.
Freshman Katelyn Weber (St. Clair, Minn.) and junior Taylor Boster (Halliday, N.D.) also competed in the weight throw, placing eighth and ninth respectively in the first flight. Junior Molly Griep (Whitewater, Wis.) competed unattached and took fourth overall in the event.
It was also a strong weekend for UND's throwers in the shot put. On Friday, senior Chantel Urban (Surrey, N.D.) placed fourth overall in the unseeded shot put throw, launching it for a mark of 40-09.75 (12.44). Griep took first in the finals with a throw of 44-06.00 (13.56).
In Saturday's seeded shot put event, junior Alyssa Lueck (Walworth, Wis.) placed fifth in her flight, launching a throw of 43-01.50 (13.14).
In the women's high jump, senior Rochelle Robb (Bull Bay, Jamaica) took fourth in the finals, reaching a season-best mark of 5-06.00 (1.68). Senior Ashley Fedie (Chanhassen, Minn.) also competed and finished 22nd overall.
North Dakota had a duo of athletes competing in the pole vault. Junior Hailey Brinkman (Grey Eagle, Minn.) cleared a mark of 10-04.25 (3.16), while freshman Erin Harris (Sidney, Mont.) did not hit.
