Talented group of 10 committed to UND swimming and diving

GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- University of North Dakota head men's and women's swimming and diving coach Chris Maiello announced his group of signees in the early period. The class of 10 have all committed to continue their academic and athletic careers at UND beginning in the fall of 2016.

"It's with great anticipation that we welcome the UND class of 2020 to the North Dakota Swimming & Diving family," Maiello said. "The class has a diverse background in all strokes and disciplines. These athletes project to score in multiple events at the conference level and will ultimately develop in national level swimmers and divers in the near future.

"It's always good to have commitments from athletes whose best performances are on par with our current team records. In this class, we have several who fit this category. We can't wait for them to blend into our program culture and help our current team achieve its future goals."

The women's class is seven deep, including the top ranked prospect in the state of North Dakota according to CollegeSwimming.com. The class also has ranked athletes from Minnesota and Nevada. Two of the recruits have already posted times that would be school records at the University of North Dakota.

The men's class features three athletes, two swimmers and a diver. Again, UND picks up a ranked recruit with the third-ranked prospect in the state of Wisconsin.

In all, the current class spans five different states and one Canadian province. The group compiled continues the upward trend of talent headed to UND in Maiello's tenure.

"I would like to thank our coaching staff, diving coach Brian Strom, assistant coach Ryan Rich and our recruiting coordinator coach Anthony Harris for an exceptional job this recruiting cycle," Maiello said. "They deserve all the credit."
