FARGO, N.D. -- Freshman Natasha Brown has quickly made a name for herself on the track in just a few meets so far, and continued to impress at this weekend's Thundering Herd Classic with another record-breaking performance.
Brown, who hails from Edmonton, Alberta, broke the school record in the 60-meter dash for the third time this season. She won the event with a time of 7.60 seconds.
Junior Paige Slemmons (Fargo, N.D.) finished behind Brown in second place with a new personal-best time of 7.72.
The women's 4x400 relay team provided UND with its second event win of the day. The team of Courtney Heupel (Medina, N.D.), Slemmons, Anne Van Heel (Forest Lake, Minn.), and Stephanie Clarke (Edmonton, Alberta) took first with a time of 3 minutes, 57.04 seconds.
Brittany Ungs (Mantorville, Minn.) won the 800-meter open for North Dakota in a time of 2:27.17.
It was also a strong weekend for North Dakota's weight throwers, with four finishes in the top-10 and a slew of new personal records. Sophomore Katarina Reller (Grand Forks, N.D.) was UND's top finisher in the weight throw, placing sixth with a launch of 57-04.25. Senior Shawny Kramer (Watkins, Minn.) also earned a top-10 finish, placing eighth with a throw of 54-02.50 (16.52).
Four different throwers set new personal bests in the weight throw. Molli Detloff reached a new school record for a freshman once again with a toss of 54-09.50 (16.70), good enough to finish seventh overall. Jayd Eggert (Minot, N.D.), Bethany Schultz (Rochester, Minn.), and Samantha Guenther (White Bear Lake, Minn.) also threw for PRs. Eggert's mark of 54-00.00 (16.46) earned her a ninth-place finish. Schultz launched a throw of 51-08.25 (15.75), while Guenther threw for 49-03.50 (15.02).
Junior Molly Griep (Whitewater, Wis.), who is redshirting this season for UND, won the event while competing unattached. Her mark of 62-09.50 (19.14) would have set a new school record, and ranks first in the Big Sky Conference as of now.
The distance runners turned in a good performance in the 5,000-meter run. All five North Dakota runners set new personal records in the race. Senior Jessica Lynch (Cologne, Minn.) was UND's top finisher, taking second with a time of 18:09.17. Senior Erin Wysocki (Grand Forks, N.D.) who is redshirting won the event and also set a new personal-best time of 17:48.73.
Also on the track, Rachel Dryburgh (Hillsboro, N.D.) placed fourth with a time of 1:00.56. Amanda Larson (Lakeville, Minn.) also earned a fourth-place finish but in the 1-mile run, finishing in a time of 5:45.82.
Clarke ran a strong race for North Dakota in the seeded 400-meters, placing second with a time of 56.12.
In the pole vault, freshman
Erin Harris (Sidney, Mont.) and junior
Hailey Brinkman (Grey Eagle, Minn.) each cleared 9-10.00 (3.00) to place third and fourth respectively.
Ashley Fedie (Chanhassen, Minn.), meanwhile, placed third in the high jump, with a mark of 5-03.25 (1.61).
