Canada names Krzyzaniak to World Championship roster

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Sophomore defenseman Halli Krzyzaniak was named to the Canadian Women's National Team that will compete at the 2015 IIHF Women's World Championship in Malmo, Sweden on March 28-April4, Hockey Canada announced Thursday.

The UND women's hockey defenseman was most recently named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's All-WCHA Third Team for her efforts during the 2014-15 season. Through 34 games, Krzyzaniak was a staple on the UND blue line, recording a +11 plus/minus and recording 13 points from two goals and 11 assists on the year.

This is the second time the Neepawa, Manitoba native will skate with the Canadian senior team, having represented Canada at the 2014 Four Nations Cup back in November.

At the 2014 Four Nations Cup, she recorded her first career international point when she assisted on the game-winning goal against the United States in preliminary action. Despite being one of the team's youngest players, Krzyzaniak was trusted in all situations for Canada, seeing extensive time on both the power play and penalty kill units. She played in all four games for the Canadians at the tournament.

Prior to the 2015 IIHF Women's World Championship, Canada will participate in a pre-competition camp from March 18-24 in Toronto, Ontario which will include two pre-tournament games against Midget AAA teams from Ontario.

Canada opens the tournament against the United States on March 28, and will also face Russia on March 29 and Finland on March 31 in preliminary-round play.

The semifinals are set for April 3, with the bronze medal game and gold medal game on April 4.
