NORWALK, Calif. -- Junior Jayd Eggert led the University of North Dakota women's track and field team's throwers on Friday at the Beach Invitational with a record performance in the javelin.
Eggert, a native of Minot, N.D., set a new school record in the event. She placed second at the meet with a throw of 157 feet, 7 inches (48.03 meters).

AZUSA, Calif. -- UND continued its West Coast swing with competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday as well.
Freshmen Tianna McKinney (Roseville, Minn.) and Heather Harrower (Nederland, Colo.) each won their sections of the 400-meters, finishing 11th and 12th overall respectively. McKinney ran a time of 55.96 seconds, while Harrower clocked in at 56.05.
North Dakota reached the podium in both relay events. The 4x100 relay team of McKinney, Harrower, junior Paige Slemmons (Fargo, N.D.), and freshman Rachel Dryburgh (Hillsboro, N.D.) placed third, running a time of 47.43. The 4x400 relay team also finished third overall behind a time of 3 minutes, 48.26 seconds. The team was made up of Slemmons, McKinney, senior Anne Van Heel (Forest Lake, Minn.), and Harrower.
Also on the track, Slemmons ran a time of 12.33 in the 100-meters to tie for sixth in her section.
Dryburgh placed eighth overall in the 400-meter hurdles, running a time of 1:02.51. Van Heel ran a time of 1:03.46 to finish fourth in her section and 14th overall.
It was a strong day for the distance runners as well. Senior Jessica Lynch (Cologne, Minn.) finished 11th overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:58.52. Junior Lydia Lutz (Park Rapids, Minn.) was second in her flight in the 5K with a time of 17:08.76, which placed her 16th overall. In the 800-meter run, sophomore Megan Kienholz (Lino Lakes, Minn.) placed fourth in her section behind a time of 2:15.88.
One of the leading performances in the field came from junior Alyssa Lueck (Walworth, Wis.), who placed ninth in the discus with a throw of 155-07 (47.43), setting a new personal best.
In the shot put, Lueck and freshman Katelyn Weber (St. Clair, Minn.) finished 16th and 17th overall respectively, with Lueck throwing for 44-00.75 (13.43) and Weber hitting a mark of 43-04.25 (13.21). Senior Chantel Urban (Surrey, N.D.) finished 25th behind a throw of 41-06.00 (12.65).
Senior Ashley Fedie (Chanhassen, Minn.) tied for 12th place in the high jump, clearing a mark of 5-04.25 (1.63).
North Dakota will wrap up competition this weekend with day two of the Beach Invitational today.
