ST. PETER, Minn. -- The University of North Dakota women's track and field team saw its program record in the hammer fall once again this season, with junior thrower Jayd Eggert breaking the all-time best mark this time at Saturday's Drake Alternative Meet.
Eggert, a native of Minot, N.D., came up with a big personal record to snap the school record in the event with a throw of 195 feet, 8 inches (59.64 meters). The mark helped her take first at the meet and snapped the facility record in the hammer throw as well.
Also leading the way for the throwers, junior Alyssa Lueck (Walworth, Wis.) won both the discus and the shot put. In the discus, she placed first with a throw of 149-02 (45.48), while setting a new personal record in the shot put of 46-00.50 (14.03) to win.
Senior Rachel Miesbauer (Hibbing, Minn.) led a strong contingent of UND runners in the 5,000-meter run, as the team placed six runners in the top seven. Miesbauer placed second with a time of 18 minutes, 38 seconds and sophomore Larissa Juelich (Chanhassen, Minn.) was third with a time of 18:39.85. Freshman Martha Hubbell (West St. Paul, Minn.) and sophomore Carly Bertsch (Fargo, N.D.) rounded out the top-five.
Sophomore Megan Kienholz (Lino Lakes, Minn.) reached the podium in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.03, finishing third, while senior Jessica Lindsay ran a time of 2:21.11 to finish right behind her in fourth.
Behind Lueck in the shot, freshman Katelyn Weber (St. Clair, Minn.) was next for UND with a third-place finish and a launch of 43-10.75 (13.38). Senior Chantel Urban (Surrey, N.D.) placed sixth with a toss of 41-00.50 (12.51). Sophomore Katarina Reller (Grand Forks, N.D.) finished fourth in the hammer, throwing for 170-00 (51.83).
North Dakota will compete again on Tuesday, April 28, at the Cobber Twilight in Moorhead, Minn., after the meet was postponed last week.
