GRAND FORKS, N.D. – UND women's hockey freshman defenseman Abby Thiessen was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

The honor comes after the Red Deer, Alberta native recorded a career-high two-point outing in the 5-0 win at Lindenwood on Dec. 16. Thiessen notched two assists in the contest, including an assist on the power play. She finished the weekend against the Lions with a +1 plus/minus rating and blocked one shot.

This is the first weekly award for Thiessen and the seventh overall for UND this season. The Fighting Hawks have now claimed five Rookie of the Week honors by four separate student-athletes.

North Dakota is on hiatus over the holiday break and returns to action on Jan. 13-14 with a conference matchup against Minnesota State.
